A Canterbury UMC & Leaf and Petal Wedding Day

Throughout the day at Canterbury UMC, Graves remained mostly quiet and reserved. But next to his bride-to-be, you’d hardly even notice his forced smile. Kayleigh’s energy was absolutely contagious, whether she was talking with her bridesmaids, laughing with her dad (quite a character himself), or greeting guests at the reception. She was a beautiful hurricane of excitement and expressiveness, and everyone nearby couldn’t help but be drenched in that same joy!

Or maybe it was rain that everyone was drenched in. If a rainy wedding day forecasts a good marriage, then Kayleigh and Graves have nothing to worry about, because it was pouring for most of the day! There was a beautiful garden courtyard in the church where we hoped to take family portraits, but it was too damp even when the rain let up. Thankfully we had enough of a break to get the families together by the beautiful sanctuary entrance doors.

Leaf and Petal Birmingham Wedding Reception Venue

After the ceremony in Canterbury UMC‘s gorgeous sanctuary, and after mingling for a few minutes to let the rain pass, the celebration continued at Leaf & Petal at the Summit. As guests entered and signed the guestbook, they were encouraged to highlight their favorite Scripture verses in a Bible to give to the wedding couple. Kayleigh and Graves were announced, and the group sat down for an intimate dinner that really felt like family.

The wedding – a Happily Ever After at Leaf and Petal

Toward the end of the night, we snuck away with the couple to take a few more portraits in the beautiful garden shop — and I’m glad we did! We got one of the best photos of the night in that brief time! We were about to wrap up after taking a few photos of them seated side by side, and we asked if they had any more poses they wanted. Kayleigh jokingly threw her legs onto Graves’ lap, but the moment so perfectly represented the two of them and their relationship.

I was so glad to be part of Kayleigh and Graves’ special day at Canterbury UMC and Leaf and Petal. The love and joy they had for each other still makes me smile as I think back on it!
